Holidays for the Military

I'm posting this today because around the world, both in combat and not, there are soliders that cannot be with their family or loved ones on Christmas. My boyfriend is one of them and I can't wait untill Sunday to see him after he gets off work. He works all weekend 7-7! Yuck, but at least he's at home here on base safe and sound. That's my Christmas Blessing...

I subscribe to a blog by a wonderful woman named Shell*. And she does these things called "Pour your heart out". So today, I'm picking up the baton and running with it.

I can't stand people who don't support the USA at all. Okay. Yes. I know, it's not perfect in any stretch of the mind. And maybe we do spend money on strange things. AND my god, don't get me started on the whole "No Child Left Behind" act. ughh.

But if you don't like it, tough. Be proud of our country. Not many countries in the world can come together in the face of disaster like we can. Not many countries have military's that people are willing to go join on a regular basis [no draft or required service].

This isn't a very good "pour your heart out" topic because I can't really express how I truly feel about this topic in words. so here is a couple of pictures that I love about the USA.

Friday night, an adventure was brewing in Dover as a group of young hooligans gallivanted around doing nonsense things like going to Walmart for 2 hours to look at Christmas Decorations, Computer Cleaner, and random other items. Funny pictures were to be taken while at Walmart (and while there are a funny aspect of the night, not the main focus of this story) before the group deciding.....

Ashley: "Hey...I'm hungry!"

Chris: "Errr, actually. I am too?"

Megan: "Well, since Chris has never had a Chick-fil-a milkshake**, let's go there for dinner?"

Ashley: "Sounds good."

Chris: "What did I get myself into by bringing these two girls to Walmart?"

** This is a tragedy to Megan and Ashley because they both LOVE the Chick-fil-a Milkshakes despite both being lactose-intolerant**

anyway. back to the chick-fil-a story :)

So, we left Walmart after buying our random stuff [including icky eggnog purchased by one boyfriend] and drove over to the Chick-fil-a. After not being allowed to buy my own meal [grrr Chris], we enjoyed our dinner! It was super-yummy. I pretty much adore their chicken sandwichs and as previously mentioned....Ash and I love the milkshakes.

After the meal was all finished, and we were sadly done with our yummy milkshakes and food; we got up to leave. I'm a bit of a camera slut [aka I take photos EVERYWHERE and anywhere and the poor people around me alot aka Ashley and Chris typically have no choice but to just go along with me taking the pictures] so I have my camera out as usual.

We just threw away our trash and the hysterial events of the nights were just begining right then......

Me: "Chris! Go stand by the cow dressed as a Reindeer. I love that cow! Go! Smile! Chris! Smile at me, would you?"

The Manager [who we didn't realize was the manager] and his wife: "Aww, I guess you like the cow?"

Me: "I like this cow alot! Pretty much the cutest thing ever!"

The Manager's wife: "So do you like the cow more than the boy?"

Me: "Most definitly! That cow is awesome!"

Chris: "What?!?" [with a look of pure horror and sadness]

Me: "What?"

The Manager: "So would you rather date the cow?"

Me: "Well, sure?!?"

Chris: [more horror looks and sadness]

The entire staff working the cashieres (to Chris): "Burn! Ohhhhhhh...."

The Manager's wife: "I know that cow, I can give him your number!"

Chris: "Oh. No. I can't compete with a cow. They have four stomachs."

Me: "Oh goodness."

The Manager: "Well, since you girls like the cow so much, let me get you two something"

The manager gave Ashley and I each a cute little cow which was awesomely amazing and it is now sitting on my bookshelf. Chris was given some coupons for his embarrassment. We definitely did not expect this and it honestly was super sweet of the manager to do that for us!

The next Monday night [aka tonight].....

Chris was going to some video game release thing [I'm a girl who doesn't play video games at all. I have no clue what it was for at all] and decdied to get some dinner, I assume. I'm sitting in my house eating my own dinner with Ashley and my phone goes off. Knowing Chris was going to video-game thing, when I saw "Picture Message" from Chris :) on my phone..I was confused. I open and litterally....just started grinning.

Yup. My boyfriend went to dinner at chick-fil-a and the cow was there. Knowing just how much I liked that cow, he had his friend take a picture of the two of them together. And then sent it to me. He's pretty durn sweet and I'm lucky to know him [and even luckier for me, dating the silly boy].

Anyway. That's the story of the silly young adults who went to Chick-fil-a and got some yummy food, an awesome adventure and some sweet memories thanks to the amazing cow and a really nice manager/wife.

Lesson of the story: Enjoy life. Be silly. Go to Chick-fil-a because they have awesome milkshakes.

It would be hardest for me to eat unfamillar food as my body doesn't handle strange food well at all! :)

(I'm gonna describe the comunity I live in at school since I'm there most of the time)

Dover is the capital city of Delaware and while change is evident, much more is needed. The college is centered between two vastly different sections of town and it is evident no matter which was you look out the window of my room in my house. If you look right of campus, you see a wonderful, beautiful historic section of town. To the left, you see a seedy, drug-filled area with danger lurking everywhere. Off in the distance, you hear the roar of planes taking off and landing at Dover Air Force base and during 2 weekends per year, you hear the roar of Nascar filling the area.

3) When was the last time you fell asleep at work?

The last time I fell asleep at work was the summer after my junior year. It was hot, I was bored, and there were no customers. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep for a good 10 minutes. haha :)

4) Show and Tell.

What comes to mind when I see that photo is the south-of-the-border truck stop on the way to Orlando, Florida.

So the past few weeks have been crazy! This week I'm in Washington, DC for an interfaith youth core leadership institute on interfaith dialouge. It has been one of the most intresting experiences in relation to faith that I have ever had. The entire confrence was based off the question "What of..?". What if the youth of today came together from all faiths and traditions to make a difference in the world. What if...?

Coming to the confrence was intresting because we missed our train on the way to DC and then I got to be the director of getting us to the hotel. During the first day of the confrence, we worked on training oppurtunities as well as a few other things. Today, in the morning we got to go to the White House to have a session then off to Georgetown again.

I'll do a update and written report on the confrence when I get home so keep looking for that! Anyway, school has been going crazy and I'm slightly stressed. My classes have many things going on and I'll be honest,I did not handle that too well for a few days :) plus I managed to "break" my laptop yet again.... Ugh. Prayers for that please!!

So tonight after Contemporary Ensemble had our intresting performance, Chris came to hang out with me and watch a movie.

And yes. My hair is blonde but don't judge when I share what happened! =]

So we were suppose to watch Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix because we're trying to get through all of the books and movies before the seventh and FINAL [I seriously can't believe that the seventh movie is coming out. I remember when the first book came out....woahhh I'm getting old.] And so...I put the movie in and we sit down to watch it. We watch for like 5 minutes and then Chris brings up an intresting point.

"Umm.....I thought the dememntors were suppose to attack in the begining of this movie. Are we watching the 5th movie??"

And I go .....

"What do you mean? This is the 5th movie....Oh WAIT. That bridge is not suppose to collapse."

So yeah. my blonde-ness decided to make a guest appearance tongiht. I managed to put the 6th Harry Potter movie in the DVD player instead of the 5th. Yikes....uhhh yeah, We'll try again eventually! :)

So instead....We watched Pocahontas and looked at Roller Coaster Photos. =]

So I hope everyone is well and enjoying fall! I have a few blog posts to post at some point soon and I'm trying to work up the nerve to post one of my stories [at least the beginning] but it's not looking promising! =]

Grover Cleveland The First Democrat elected after the Civil War, Grover Cleveland was the only President to leave the White House and return for a second term four years later. One of nine children of a Presbyterian minister, Cleveland was born in New Jersey in 1837. He was raised in upstate New York. As a lawyer in Buffalo, he became notable for his single-minded concentration upon whatever task faced him. At 44, he emerged into a political prominence that carried him to the White House in three years. Running as a reformer, he was elected Mayor of Buffalo in 1881, and later, Governor of New York. Cleveland won the Presidency with the combined support of Democrats and reform Republicans, the "Mugwumps," who disliked the record of his opponent James G. Blaine of Maine. A bachelor, Cleveland was ill at ease at first with all the comforts of the White House. "I must go to dinner," he wrote a friend, "but I wish it was to eat a pickled herring a Swiss cheese and a chop at Louis' instead of the French stuff I shall find." In June 1886 Cleveland married 21-year-old Frances Folsom; he was the only President married in the White House. Cleveland vigorously pursued a policy barring special favors to any economic group. Vetoing a bill to appropriate $10,000 to distribute seed grain among drought-stricken farmers in Texas, he wrote: "Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character. . . . " He also vetoed many private pension bills to Civil War veterans whose claims were fraudulent. When Congress, pressured by the Grand Army of the Republic, passed a bill granting pensions for disabilities not caused by military service, Cleveland vetoed it, too. He angered the railroads by ordering an investigation of western lands they held by Government grant. He forced them to return 81,000,000 acres. He also signed the Interstate Commerce Act, the first law attempting Federal regulation of the railroads. In December 1887 he called on Congress to reduce high protective tariffs. Told that he had given Republicans an effective issue for the campaign of 1888, he retorted, "What is the use of being elected or re-elected unless you stand for something?" But Cleveland was defeated in 1888; although he won a larger popular majority than the Republican candidate Benjamin Harrison, he received fewer electoral votes. Elected again in 1892, Cleveland faced an acute depression. He dealt directly with the Treasury crisis rather than with business failures, farm mortgage foreclosures, and unemployment. He obtained repeal of the mildly inflationary Sherman Silver Purchase Act and, with the aid of Wall Street, maintained the Treasury's gold reserve. When railroad strikers in Chicago violated an injunction, Cleveland sent Federal troops to enforce it. "If it takes the entire army and navy of the United States to deliver a post card in Chicago," he thundered, "that card will be delivered." Cleveland's blunt treatment of the railroad strikers stirred the pride of many Americans. So did the vigorous way in which he forced Great Britain to accept arbitration of a disputed boundary in Venezuela. But his policies during the depression were generally unpopular. His party deserted him and nominated William Jennings Bryan in 1896. After leaving the White House, Cleveland lived in retirement in Princeton, New Jersey. He died in 1908.

Hi Everyone! So yesterday’s classes decided to kick me in the face. Tuesday is the worst day of my week. My day started around 7:30 and I was out of the door by 9 to go grab some breakfast and then head to class. My Geometry book was stuck in New Scranton, PA for 3 days (Thanks to Chegg for changing my address without telling me) but it finally got here after my geometry class on Tuesday. I had a break after that class (about an hour) and then I had to eat lunch, meet with the Chaplin, and then walk to the Swartz Center for drama. After Drama, I had Contemporary Ensemble and dinner. I got to go to choir for about 45 minutes and then it was off to pre-calc. I have pre-calc from 7-8:40 at night and I really like the teacher. He’s a ton of fun!

Wednesday was a pretty lazy day. I don’t have class until 2 so honestly, I slept until 12. It was great after the craziness of Tuesday. I got up and got a few things done then headed off to class. Now, originally I was suppose to have class from 2-4:45 p.m. but my class let out at like 2:45. It was great because it meant I could go to practice! Woo!

I headed off to practice (which was brutal and I only did two miles) and managed to jam my pinkie finger while doing medicine balls at the end. Yup, just my luck. I got some ice from the trainer and proceeded to chill out in my dorm and relax (and do homework). Oh yeah. We had a housing meeting as well.

Thursday. Another slightly crazy day. I had geometry, then lunch, then drama (and a shower cause I felt gross) and then practice and then dinner with Ashley and class. Yup, it was busy (and I forgot to take a picture of what I was wearing during the day. Fail for me.

Friday….I went home. Yup, that’s the end of my week!

Today was one of the most interesting first day of classes that I've had in my entire high school and college career combined.

This morning I got up around 7:30 and got ready, and around 1 5minutes to 9 decided to head out. I had a mountain of a to-do list to tackle and wanted to get it all done and over with before my first class. I did the following:

Financial Aid to turn in my high school transcript
Business Office Residence Life about my meal plan
Mail room to pick up my books
Trainer's to turn in my physical
Registrar to pick up an add/drop slip
Academic Advisor to get my slip signed
Talk to the president in the elevator (by accident)**
Library to print papers for interview
Tutoring application

It was a pretty busy morning and at 11:30, I had a super important interview! It was for the Disney College Program and I feel that it went very well! I seemed to get alot of questions about Character Attendant which I hope is a good sign! :)

**: I was in the elevator trying to head up to the 3rd floor (which is where the new Chaplin's office was and I really need to meet with her soon) and the President of Wesley just happened to be in there. He asked me how my day was going and this was right after my phone interview (so naturally I was on a Disney high) and I replied "My Day is going great! I just finished a phone interview for The Walt Disney World College Program". He asked "Oh, what is that? Tell me about it?" So I had a whole 5 minute conversation with me talking about the CP and all Disney can teach us. He seemed really pleased that two people from our college are attempting to apply and participate. I also said "I really hope that the college is supportive of this, It's an amazing internship" and he replied "Oh, We most certianly are! This is something not only great for you to particiapte in but it's something we should support! You two girls come visit me personally the moment you find something out and I will make sure the college supports you!"

This is the answer to SO MANY prayers. The college had previously been very unsupportive of the College program for me as my department would not support the program for education credits as it was not directly related to education. I truly am so happy that he supports this and I can't wait to find something out! :)

Anyway. Back to my challenge:

Today is the first day of classes for the fall semester and I also have my Disney College Program interview today at 11:30! I'm actually very relaxed about it, I've prepared and I've talked to God about it so it will be whatever he wants it to be. I don't have class untill 2 p.m. which is very nice because I can go get stuff done around campus that I need to do. I have a to-do list that it like an entire note card! It's crazy but I don't think any of it it going to be too torturous.

Last night, I thought I would FREEZE to dealt in my dorm room. It was bloody freezing and I felt that an Eskimo couldn't even be that cold! It was crazy. Around 2 this morning, I got up and turned my air off completely. haha

New Challenge

So today I moved back to college! It's my 3rd year (whoa. Time's flying) and I am on the same floor and in the same room that I was in last spring. I live in Carpenter Hall here at Wesley and I’m up on the 3rd floor yet again this semester. This is my 5th Semester on a 3rd floor and after moving in my stuff today…..I vowed that it would be my last (unless I can’t get my single elsewhere on campus).

Last night when I finally got home from the grandparents (we cut their grass and my grandfather helped me put together a bookcase) and running errands with the mom, I packed my clothes and unpacked my suitcase from Germany. I’d never unpacked my suitcase from Germany so that was the first thing I had to do. Once I got all my clothes packed, I hauled them down the stairs (mom helped me fold a bunch) and then my brothers helped me haul them out to the car that I had already loaded earlier in the evening.

Originally, Cross Country was suppose to move in on Saturday, August 21st so that we could have a team meeting the night before the rest of the upperclassmen moved back in but Wesley College decided we were not allowed to move into the dorms until today like the rest of the upperclassmen. So this morning (in order to beat the rush and beat the rain) we decdied to leave at about 7 am! I woke up at 5:45 a.m. and got myself ready and after waking mom up at 6:30, made coffee. We left about 7:15 and made it to Dover in about 2 hour.

I’m gonna skip talking about check-in and moving all my crap up 3 flights of stars because no one wants to read about how messed up Wesley Financial Aid is nor about the fact that it’s hotter than hell with the humidity while carrying stuff.

I went out to eat for lunch with Ashley and her boyfriend Tim plus my mom before mom left and then I’ve been unpacking/decorating my room. It looks pretty good! I’m not done, I still have to put up my postcards and then I’ll be done!

My First Purple Email!

So today, I got my very first PURPLE Email. Everyone involved in the College Program knows that they come from Disney Recruiting and are super-exciting to get! =]

It's basically just the interview tips but is still super exciting to get! In other news, many of my friends that have been participating in the Facebook Group for awhile now have had or are having their phone interviews in the past few days or today/tmrw. I wish all of them "Good Luck" and can't wait to hear about it.

Hi Everyone! :) So applications came out yesterday. And my best friend from college called me saying "Applications are live! I'm working on the application now!".

Now....normally, I would have been jumping and screaming and racing to my computer. Small problem. I was at the Wicomico Country Farm and Home Show (and spending the night at the farm where there is no internet).

The start of the summer!

So..... Summer has officially begun just a few days ago. Luckly for me, my summer began way back on April 30th when my classes ended for the summer even though I had to go back to Wesley for Graduation. This summer is jam-packed with things to do and I am having a blast. After things happen, I'll rewiew them here so you guys get to have fun with me! Ok, so that's an exxageration but whatever!

May got kicked off with a bang, with graduation and bacalaurate. It was bittersweet to sing at graduation and bacalaurate because of our director leaving. He is going to be starting a doctorate degree at University of Maryland this fall. Singing for the last time under Emmon's direction left manuy of our choir crying due to the emotion. We were told that we were to recieve a new director this fall. Who knows...

After graduation, the next week I worked at a farm tour that is held each year for 3 days. It teaches over 2,500 kids about agriculture and how important it is in today's society. I covered this even pretty well in my blog earlier this month or during May. I love being part of this tour and it's alot of fun with the teenagers that I work as teammates with. I'm gonna miss this event next spring if I'm on Florida.

The next weekend, I went to visit my best friend from freshman year of college. She lives in smithville, nj and they held their annual craft fair. It was awelsome to hang out with her and her family for the weekend.

Later that month, I went to the movies to see "Letters to Juliet" with my best friends who I am know to be a part of. One of our teachers back in high school gave the 5 of us girls the nicname "the fab 5" and we've stuck to that. We go to 4 different colleges ranging from NC to DE to MD and 6 different majors. We are still as close as the day we all graduated (even though 2 of us graduated in 2008 and the other 3 of us graduated in 2009).
I worked with a local Ruritan club for a chicken BBQ on Memorial Day for the 19th year! It's been going on for 20 years and I have been helping since I was a year or so old.

During June, my family and I went on vacation in Williamsburg, Virginia for a week. My friend Amanda came with my family on vacation and we had a blast! We went to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Busch Gardens. At Busch Gardens they were having "Glory in the Gardens" and we got to see Francessca Ballintenta, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Building 429! I also helped my aunt last week because she had catarct surgery. I got to drive her around for 3 days.

This past weekend, I went to my friend Ashley's house for the weekend. On Sunday we went to the "away" Phillies game at Citzens Bank Park which was amazing. Ashley and I both made Phanatics at the Build-a-Bear.

So... That's what I've done so far this summer. Right now I'm cleaning my room because we have guests coming in in sat for the weekend. I don't have my laptop, so I might be a little hard to get up with right now :)

I can't wait to apply this fall :)

Mom and I went into Hallmark on Friday and I ended up getting a new journal and a plaque! Mom is really supportive of the College Program and she bought me these two things :)

Talk to my advisor in a week (which would be November 10th). So, After waiting a week, I got some bad news :( The education department will not allow me to receive any credit at all for my major. boo. Oh well. My advisor told me to go talk to the Registrar's to see if I can get internship credit
Schedule my Spring 2010 Classes at Midnight on Sat :() Done, with me succedding in getting all my classes except for the small fact that one of my classes ended up being held at Dover Air Force Base? ha whatever.

Talk to the Registar's. I'm planning to do this in a few weeks, after all the scheduling buisness for spring classes is done because they are busy enough and I want them to be in good moods :pixie dust:

My scores for Writing were not released yet.

My "real" application post :)

I posted a blog reall quick last night that just said that applications were up but nothing else. So here's the background story :)

Last night, around 4:30? or so, I was trying to take a quick nap before choir. I heard the "ping" that my computer makes when I get a new email and I lifted my head off my pillow to look at my laptop. I debated getting up to go see who it was from, but figuring it was just an email from my mom; I decided I would check it when I woke up.

Fast forward to about 6:15 when I woke up. I walked over to my laptop and clicked on my email. As I waited for the program to respond, I picked up my phone and sent a message to my mom about this weekend. As the messages started opening, my excitment level shot up 100% and I started shouting and grabbing my phone to text my mom and tell her. The new schedule and applications for the college program were posted!! :) Now, mind you; I can't actually apply untill next fall (I have to defend my educational portfolio first) but I was just so excited. I had been waiting for that lovely email from Disney for while since they closed applications for the fall and took down the schedule.

So, I'm going to be attending the College Presentation at Delaware State University just a few blocks from my school here in Dover on March 11, 2010 :) While I cannot apply yet, my mom had requested the chance to go listen to a presentation before I apply.

Disney Christmas Post

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! J It’s Christmas! Yay! I still can’t believe how fast time is flying. And I know, oh boy do I know, that when it comes time for my to apply for the College Program next fall in August/September, time will go so slow while I wait for my acceptance (I hope) or my rejection (boy, do I hope not).

Impatiently, I’m waiting for the spring presentation to be held at DSU or UD around me as there are no presentations held at my college. Mom and I are planning on attending either of these presentations; as she wants to be able to ask questions to her heart’s content so that she feels reassured. She actually is okay with me moving 925 miles to go work for the mouse as I’m not the first person in my family to do the CP. Also, with attending the Spring Presentation; I can just simply watch the online presentation and then apply.

I started thinking about what I would need for the program. Is that crazy? I personally don’t think so since most of my family buys Christmas presents all year long for Christmas. So, most of the time; if I know far enough in advance exactly what I want (like this Christmas I asked for clothes and money since I’m going abroad) they are able to usually get exactly what I want and I don’t get sticker shock when I have go drop hundred’s of dollars on things that I need. I did this with my college stuff and only had to buy like 50 dollars worth of stuff when I started college.

On a side note, I tool all of the information I printed off the College Program website to the Register’s Office about receiving credit for the College Program. I also was told that there was someone else from Wesley who did the CP and he got credit. So…. I’m praying for Pixie Dust!

Did anyone watch the Disney Christmas Parade? I did not get too, we were eating breakfast or on the road while it was going on. I’ve been at Walt Disney World for Christmas once before in 1998 and It was AMAZING. I love all the magic that goes on during that season.

So, today on a total whim, I decided to stop by the Registrar's at my college. Now, I was very nervous doing this as when I had talked to my advisor, you would have thought I was asking to go do an internship on the moon.
But.......

THEY are so excited that another student is doing this program :) I'm the second from Wesley to do this program, they know the program and are going to do all they can to get me credits for it :)

more later. Must go write a paper right now and decorate a tree. and print Disney Stuff. And god know what else.

Bad News Bears :{}

So I met with my cornered after class my advisor yeasterday, and it was bad news bears time. Basically, She told me that the education department would not support me if I decided to [as she put it, "go work at a theme park"] do the College Program and I would receive no credits for my major. She told me to talk to the the registar next week. If they tell me that I cannot receive credit, I will be requesting a meeting with the dean of students. Pray for Pixie Dust! :)

It all started with a Mouse, or in my case: A Duck! (Part Two)

Here is the second part of my first trip to Disney World. You were just burning with excitement, right?? =]

As Megan walked down Main Street with her family towards the castle, she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Was that the Famed Donald Duck? Living and Breathing? She grabbed her family and raced towards the line, only stopping when she had both feet in the line to meet Donald. When it was finally her turn, Donald Duck turned to her and held out his arms. She gave him the bigest hug ever! Donald Duck signed her autograph book and she posed for countless pictures before her family pulled her away since it was time for the next family. As she walked away, she shouted "I'll miss you, Donald!" and he waved a kiss to her. It was the first of many character interactions she would have with the characters over the week.

In the next week, her family would visit all four parks, and they would meet as many characters as they possibly could. They met Minnie, Mickey, Donald =], Daisy, Snow White, the seven dwarfs, Princess Aurora and her prince, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pluto, Goofy, Mary Poppins and many more. That was the moment the Disney magic really began for Megan, and the first time she really knew that the college program was a nation-wide program.

Today, I took the very first step towards being able to participate in the Walt Disney World College Program in the Spring of 2011. Ahhhhhhhhh =]

My very first step was to talk to my advisor today about the program and what she thought. honestly, I thought she was going to faint when I told her that I wanted to do the WDWCP and I would be gone for 7 months (I want to do the Spring Advantage, I think). I'm the first person from Wesley College who has ever wanted to go and I have a feeling I'm going to have to jump through hoops to get permission and credit. I have a few ideas about how I could get credit, but I just have to wait and see.

My advisor told me that she would talk to the department chair and do some research on her own about it, and that I should come and talk to her about it next Tuesday. Lucky for me, I do not have class next Tuesday with her but I will try to go and see her during the first few moments of our class time since I have algebra anyway.

Anyway, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed right now. It would be amazing if I could manage to get even 6 credits from Wesley for WDW. That's all for now!

It all started with a Mouse, or in my case: A Duck!

My very first trip to Walt Disney World, and the very beginning of my journey to the Happiest Internship in the World! Enjoy! This is Part One =]

On December 22,1998, Megan came home from elementary school and upon skipping up the driveway with her backpack in hand, entered her home and went on into her room to put her stuff down since she had made a few Christmas cards in class and did not want her parents to see them. She walked into her room where she saw a pair of shorts and a t-shirt sitting there with a Donald Duck stuffed animal on it. She was utterly confused, as it was far from shorts and t-shirts weather in the cold state of Md. As she threw her boots in her closet, she noticed her duffle bag was missing. When she walked out of her room, she called for her mom and all of a sudden, her mom and dad popped out of her bathroom behind her and said “Surprise!” as they placed one of the famous Mickey Mouse Ear hats on her head. They were leaving for Walt Disney World in just a few short hours! Her family would be there from December 23rd to January 2nd and would be staying right off property in one of the family’s timeshares.

Soon enough, her family (which consisted of her mom, dad and great-aunt as well as herself) left their home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the long drive to Orlando. Orlando is 904 miles from Mardela and it would take them about 15 hours of driving to get there. As they pulled out of their driveway, Megan waved goodbye to her pets, Blondie and Dagwood (don’t worry, the family was having an aunt come take care of them each day) and began to watch movies. They left home around 4 p.m. and would drive for about 6 hours and then would stop at a hotel for the night. The next morning, the family would leave the hotel and drive down into Fl. In order to prevent Megan from asking “Are we there yet?” questions every 5 mins, her mother gave her a ten dollar roll of quarters and each time Megan asked “Are we there YET?” she would have to give up a quarter. By the time they got to Jacksonville, Fl; Megan had used surprisingly none of her quarters. But between Jacksonville and Orlando(a 2.5 hour drive); she would use a whopping 13 quarters. Upon checking in at the timeshare, The family jumped into the pool and swam for a while before unpacking and getting settled in. They went to sleep early, as tomorrow was a busy day!

Early in the morning on Christmas eve, Megan and her family got up and got ready to head to the packs after a quick but filling breakfast. Megan’s mom would later recall that Megan could hardly sit still and was bouncing like a chicken with her head cut off! They would pile into the car and head towards The Magic Kingdom, with Megan bouncing in her seat with her Mickey Mouse Ears firmly on her head and Autograph Book in hand. You see, Megan’s cousin had done the Walt Disney World College Program the following year and had brought her back her very own autograph book with a big pen just for her trip. After catching the ferry across, and her father taking a photo of her face as she saw Cinderella’s Castle for the first time, She raced off the boat. Once the family had gone through the entrance, The four of them began the walk down Main Street. The next few moments would be the first and most special of many magical moments.
